A US front-loader states a supply of 120 V at 10 A — a rating plate of 1,200 VA — because it takes hot water from the house water heater. A European one heats its own and is rated 2,300 W. A European washing machine has a heating element in it and brings its own water up to temperature; a US one is plumbed to hot and cold and lets the house water heater do that work. Why the US figure is volt-amperes and stays that way
Both US sheets state a voltage and a current and stop there. Multiplying them gives apparent power — what the circuit has to be able to supply — and the real running power of a machine with a variable-speed drive sits at or below it, never above.
